Samsung Exec Confirms That They Are Working On A Smartwatch

Samsung executive vice president of mobile, Lee Young Hee, has confirmed in an interview that they are working on a smart watch product.  “We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” stated Hee during an interview in Seoul as quoted by Bloomberg. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”

Lee did not say what types of features that the watch will have, how much it will sell for, or when it would go on sale.  The watch would compete against a rumored smart-watch being created by Apple.  According to several reports, there are around 100 product designers working on a wristwatch device that may have similar features as the Apple iPhone and iPad like the ability to make calls and read maps.

Samsung has been involved in developing a smart-watch for a long time now.  The Samsung S9110 watch can play MP3 ringtones, run on WiFi, and read data through Bluetooth.  The S9110 even has 3G support, a touch screen, video calling, and an e-mail platform.
