Glamour Magazine To Host 9 Google+ Hangouts Focused On Beauty Products
Glamour Magazine has found a creative way to monetize Google+ Hangouts. Starting today, Glamour magazine has launched a month-long series of Google+ Hangouts that will feature staff members and products. Around eight out of the nine Google+ Hangouts are sponsored by a company, whose products will be featured prominently in the content.
One of the Google+ Hangouts will be sponsored by Unilever’s Suave brand where blogger Erica Domesek will be showing viewers how to make hair accessories. Another Hangout will be sponsored by Pantene and it will feature Tamu McPherson teaching viewers how to take great street-style photos. Some of the other sponsors for the Hangouts include Vince Camuto, Alterna Haircare, La Crema, and SlimFast. All of the sponsors are advertising in Glamour’s May issue also.
Some of Glamour’s Google+ Hangouts will allow viewers to chat and interact with the hosts, while some of the other Hangouts will be closed sessions. Glamour and Google came up with the idea of product placements in Google+ Hangouts around 6 months ago according to Glamour publisher Bill Wackermann in an interview with Mashable. This program was intended as a way to put an advertisers’ products in front of Glamour’s 1.5 million Google+ followers in a way that is compelling.
Glamour is going to promote the series in the magazine and through paid Google ads. Google is not going to receive a share for the sponsored Google+ Hangout content.
