Online Glasses Retailer Warby Parker Opens A Retail Store In NYC
Warby Parker has been selling their eyewear at retail stores over the last two years in the form of a “store-within-a-store.” The Warby Parker showrooms were at various retail stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Nashville. Now Warby Parker has opened their own retail store this past weekend in New York City within the SoHo District. The address of the store is 121 Greene New York, NY 10012.
The design of the store was inspired by classic libraries and the space is lined with books and rolling library ladders. The Warby Parker store in New York also has a photo booth for taking photos. There will be an in-store optometrist on hand to perform eye exams seven days per week. The exams are only $50 and visitors can watch their appointments on the appointment board, inspired by the train arrival and departure boards at Grand Central Station. Customers will be able to choose whether they want to receive products by mail or in the store.
Warby Parker is known for selling fashionable eyewear that is often times considered more appealing than what is offered by Luxottica. The company raised $41.5 million a couple months ago led by Millard Drexler (J. Crew CEO) and American Express. New York City is not the only location that Warby Parker is planning to open a retail store. The company posted a job for a store leader and an optician in Boston.
The Warby Parker retail store will be using sensors, WiFi, and other technologies to leaner how people are using their retail space. This will give the company’s design and sales team intelligence on how to come up with business trends, according to GigaOM.
