Bitbar Raises $3 Million

Bitbar is a company that has developed a mobile app testing platform called Testdroid.  Bitbar has raised $3 million in funding as part of a round led by Creathor Venture, DFJ Esprit, Finnvera Venture Capital, TEKES, and Qualcomm Ventures. Based in Finland, Bitbar will be using the funding to expand beyond test on Android, iOS, and HTML5.  Bitbar previously raised a seed round from Finnvera Venture Capital and several undisclosed angel investors.

Bitbar’s testing solutions are based on open standards that makes it easier for app developers to ensure their mobile apps are working properly on devices that they are targeting. The company’s flagship product is Testdroid Cloud. Testdroid Cloud offers real-time testing for mobile application developers to host and offer access to over 200 Android powered smartphones and devices.

One of the biggest issues that mobile app developers are dealing with involves fragmentation. To ensure that their mobile apps are compatible with nearly every platform, developers have to test their apps on multiple sized tablets and smartphones. Buying all of the devices to test apps on can be very costly also. Testdroid offers the ability to test devices on the cloud as a service that is automated.

The Testdroid Recorder product can automatically generate standards-based test scripts and the Testdroid Server is used for companies to build in-house tests. Some of Bitbar’s customers include BMW, eBay, Facebook, Evernote, Google, PayPal, Pinterest, and The Weather Channel.
