Intel CEO Paul Otellini Says Notebook Prices Will Soon Hit $200
Intel CEO Paul Otellini said that the prices of notebooks will soon hit $200. Most of these notebooks will be based on Android rather than Windows 8 though, according to Intel chief product officer and EVP Dadi Perlmutter. Those laptops will also run on Intel’s Atom mobile processor.
“We have a good technology that enables a very cost-effective price point,” stated Perlmutter. Perlmutter said that the price of Windows 8 laptop depends on Microsoft.
Intel also expects convertible and detachable PCs to gain traction. These types of devices are tablets that can be converted into notebooks. The problem with convertibles is the higher price point. Intel does expect the PC market to pick up again towards the back half of the year and heading into 2014.
Intel is going to ship data-only multimode LTE processors by the middle of the year and multimode over LTE later this year. The company is going to also introduce a mobile chip that integrates LTE on the same silicon as the application processor.
