Zynga Commits $1 Million To An Educational Technology Accelerator Program
Zynga announced at the NewSchools Summit that they are committing $1 million for the first year of a new educational startup accelerator. Zynga is making the investment through their Zynga.org charity arm. Zynga is partnering with NewSchools Venture Fund on the startup accelerator. Zynga will host the startups at their headquarters in San Francisco where they will be able to interact with game designers and product managers.
“Through the efforts of Zynga.org, we’ve shown that social games can impact peoples’ lives for the better,” stated Zynga.org executive director Ken Weber. “[With NewSchools], we want to help entrepreneurs create high quality, scalable learning games that will enhance learning experiences for all 21st century students.”
One of the first Zynga/NewSchools programs will start this summer. Companies that are participating in this program includes Kidaptive, LocoMotiveLabs, and Motion Math. Edmodo, an education social network company, is joining the cohort as a charter partner.
