Acer Announces Aspire P3, Aspire R7, Iconia A1, and V Series Laptops
At an event in New York City, Acer announced a plethora of new products. This includes the Aspire P3, Aspire R7, Iconia A1 tablet, and a new line of V-series laptops. The P3 is an “ultrabook convertible,” meaning a device that can be turned into a laptop or tablet. The R7 is a notebook that can be repositioned using Acer’s new “Ezel Hinge” to bring the display forward into different positions. The Iconia A1 is an Android-powered 7-inch tablet. The V series line of laptops are very customizable and feature Acer’s new Converter Port.
The Acer P3 runs on Windows 8 and comes with either a Core i3 or i5 processor. The display on the P3 is an 11.6-inch HD. Acer said that the battery life on the P3 is 6 hours and it has fast boot and resume times. The P3 has HDMI and USB 3.0 ports. The P3 comes with a cover that can work as a physical keyboard also. The tablet combined with the cover weighs around 3.06 pounds. In terms of storage, you can buy the P3 with either a 60GB or 120GB solid-state drive (SSD).
The P3 has a 5-megapixel rear camera along with a front-facing camera for video chatting. The display on the P3 can be used with a separately sold stylus. The P3 is available immediately for purchase with prices starting at $799.99.
The Aspire R7 is a 15.6-inch notebook with a Full HD 1920 x 1080 touch screen. The display on the R7 can be repositioned using a new “Ezel Hinge.” The display can be moved forward and into different positions. It can be flipped, reversed, lay flat, or float.
“With the Aspire R7, Acer has redesigned the laptop with an approach that’s based on how people interact with their notebooks and other devices,” said Acer America’s VP of product marketing Sumit Agnihotry in a statement. “Its progressive design redefines the computing experience, so whether consumers are touching or typing, the R7 adapts to allow consumers to create, browse and share content in ways they never have before.”
The R7 will be available on May 17th. Consumers that pre-order the R7 through Best Buy between now and May 16 will also receive a free download of Star Trek: The Video Game for PC as part of Acer’s marketing partnership with Paramount for the upcoming film “Star Trek Into Darkness” opening May 17th.
The Aspire R7 is powered by the Windows 8 operating system and comes with an Intel Core i5 processor, 6GB memory, 500GB hard drive, 24GB SSD, and a backlit keyboard. There is also a volume control button, HDMI port, SD card reader, three USB ports, audio input, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a converter port that supports VGA, USB< and RJ45.
Best Buy is Acer’s exclusive retail partner for the Aspire R7. Best Buy will be selling the Aspire R7 for a price of $999.99. It will be available in stores and online for shipping on May 17th. You can pre-order the R7 today on Bestbuy.com.
Acer Iconia A1
The Iconia A1 is a 7-inch Android tablet that has a starting price of $169. The A1 has a 4:3 IPS display (1024 x 768 resolution), quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB/16GB storage options with an option to expand through a microSD slot (up to 32GB extra). The tablet runs on Android version 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and supports 3G. It also supports b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.
The rear-camera can shoot at 5-megapixels (1080p / 30fps video) and the front-camera can shoot at 0.3 megapixels (640×480 resolution / 30fps video). The A1 is 0.44 inches thick and weighs 0.9 pounds. At this price range and line of specs, the A1 competes head-on with the HP Slate 7, Amazon Kindle Fire, and Lenovo IdeaTab A6000.
The Acer Iconia A1-810 with 8GB of memory will be available starting this June at a price of $169. The 16GB version will cost $199.
Acer V-Series Laptops
Acer launched two new laptops in the V-series line: Aspire V5 and Aspire V7. The V5 is 14-inch (1,377 x 768) laptop and the Aspire V7 is a 15.6-inch (1,920 x 1,080 IPS) laptop. There is also an 11.6-inch option in the V5 range of products. The V-line can be customized to have dual- or quad-core chips from AMD or Intel. Some of the configurations will come with NVIDIA’s GeForce GT7XXM series or AMD’s Radeon HD8750 graphics. The V7 has a “silky touch” finish at the bottom of the laptop along with optional SSDs and Intel’s Wireless Display (WiDi) technology.
Both the V5 and V7 also Acer’s new Converter Port, which makes it possible to easily connect an external display, HDD, and router. The new V series laptops will be shipping at the end of the month with a starting price of $499.
