Ribbon Releases Future Social Meeting Opportunities Mobile App, Raises $2 Million

Ribbon is a new iOS mobile application that allows users to uncover future social and business meeting opportunities that they would not have known existed otherwise.  Ribbon can organize your Facebook friends into “Big Cities” and can display friends on your own personal TimeMap.

Ribbon combines mapping and calendaring while incorporating a social layer.  Users can explore their future plans by spinning the Ribbon Reel or sliding the time bar in the app.

“Social is inherently based on future plans,” said Ribbon’s founder and CEO Tony Alfaro in a statement. “Ribbon provides significant value to users in exchange for sharing future travel and event plans. Whether planning to visit New York or London, a music festival, sporting event or car race, users can update their Ribbon and uncover social and business meeting opportunities that would not have otherwise existed. We envision Ribbon becoming an exciting and engaging utility that people will use and embrace as a part of their daily lives, whether at home or on the road.”

In conjunction with the mobile app launch, Ribbon also announced that they have closed on a $2 million Series A round from several angel and institutional investors.  When I asked Ribbon for the names of the investors, I was told that it is undisclosed for this round.  Ribbon is available for download now on the Apple App Store.  The app was designed by New York based company, Fueled.
