Ten Million People Have Downloaded The BlueStacks App Player
BlueStacks’ flagship product is called the BlueStacks App Player. The BlueStacks App Player allows you to run apps from your phone fast and full-screen on Mac and Windows. Around 10 million people across over 100 countries are using BlueStacks to run apps like Angry Birds, Instagram, and Fruit Ninja fullscreen.
The BlueStacks App Player went live in slightly over a year ago. The software is free, but is still in beta mode.
“When we launched the beta we all took bets on where we’d be in one year,” stated BlueStacks CEO Rosen Sharma in an interview with AllThingsD. “No one said 10 million.” Employees at the company were optimistic that they would hit a few hundred thousand downloads.
BlueStacks did not disclose how many people are regularly using the program on a daily or monthly basis. However the company’s senior VP of marketing said that the number was “spooky high.”
BlueStacks is currently working on supporting a more recent version of Android like Jelly Bean.
Back in January, BlueStacks signed a distribution deal with Lenovo so that the BlueStacks App Player would be preloaded the PC maker’s “Idea” line of products.
Before the company’s beta, BlueStacks raised over $15 million in funding from investors like Qualcomm Ventures, AMD, Citrix Systems, Andreessen Horowitz, Ignition Ventures, and several others.
