‘Wolfenstein: The New Order’ Is Coming This Year
Bethesda has announced that a new version of Wolfenstein is coming this year. Wolfenstein: The New Order will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and next-generation consoles towards the end of this year. The New Order takes place during an alternate history throughout the 1960s when the Nazis won World War II.
Players will control war hero B.J. Blazkowicz, who will be battling enemies as he infiltrates Nazi camps throughout Europe. Blazkowicz will have a range of “super weapons.” Wolfenstein: The New Order will be the first title created by Swedish-based gaming studio MachineGames. MachineGames was founded by developers that used to work at Starbreeze Studios, known for creating the Chronicles of Riddick game.
Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax acquired MachineGames in 2010. They also bought the license for Wolfenstein when they acquired id Software in June 2009.
“We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere,” stated MachineGames creative director Jens Matthies. “As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.”
The most recent Wolfenstein game was developed by Raven Software and published by Activision in 2009. That game was simply called “Wolfenstein.” Below is a teaser trailer for the new game as published by GameSpot:
