Google’s SMS Search Gets Shut Down

Google SMS Search
Google has shut down their SMS search service, according to GHacks.  The shut-down took place several days ago, but it was really talked about until recently.  Google SMS Search let users search Google by sending a text message to the number 466453 (GOOGLE).  Google responded to the query with information through an SMS free for the user.  Google launched this service before we all had Androids and iPhones so it was not an outdated service back then.

The service had shortcuts for local weather, sports, and news headlines.  When you send a text message to the service now, you will get a notification that the service is no longer available.  Google SMS Search will most likely be missed by users that do not have a data plan.
