The New Gmail Inbox Can Automatically Organize Incoming E-Mail
Google has made some changes to Gmail to automatically sort e-mail. These changes are expected to be rolled out soon. Incoming e-mail will automatically be placed into groups. This is great news for users that believe Gmail could not get any better when they introduced the Priority Inbox.
The “Primary” category has messages from friends and family along with messages that do not get placed into other tabs. There is another tab called “Social” that will contain messages from social networks like Facebook and Twitter notifications. The “Promotions” tab will show deals and offers from shopping websites like Groupon and LivingSocial. The “Updates” tab will have bills, receipts, and confirmations from online groups, mailing lists, and discussion boards.
Inbox organization is optional and users can choose to use some of the categories or all of them. These inbox organization features will be added to the Gmail Android and iOS apps as well. The changes will be rolled out in the next few weeks, but you can check out the Gmail settings menu soon to enable the feature earlier.
