Grumpy Cat Signs A Movie Deal

Grumpy Cat
Grumpy Cat, the beloved furry feline that became an Internet sensation, has been signed for a major Hollywood movie, according to the Wall Street Journal.  Grumpy Cat’s agent Ben Lashes put together the deal with Broken Road Productions.  Broken Road Productions is known for the movies Jack and Jill, Here Comes the Boom, and Zookeeper.  The terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Grumpy Cat was discovered in Morristown, Arizona around 9 months ago.  That city has a population of 227 and Grumpy Cat is known for always frowning.  Grumpy Cat was discovered when Bryan Bundesen, a cable technician from Galion, Ohio, visited his sister Tabatha in Arizona.  Bryan took a photo of her cat and put it on the Internet.  Grumpy Cat’s real name is Tardar Sauce.  Once Tardar Sauce’s photo was posted on Reddit, it went viral.

Lashes became Grumpy Cat’s manager in October 2012.  He wants to help the Bundesens capitalize on Tardar Sauce’s fame without exploiting it too much.  Grumpy Cat has a book deal in place with Chronicle Books for the title “Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book: Disgruntled Tips and Activities Designed to Put a Frown on Your Face.”

Lashes also arranged a paid deal at this past South by Southwest with Mashable to appear at the Mashable Tent for two hour stretches over three days.  People waited for hours to have their picture taken with Grumpy Cat there.  Grumpy Cat was already in Austin, Texas for an appearance on the online game show called “Will Kitty Play With It?” sponsored by Friskies.  Grumpy Cat was even driven around in a BMW X5 with tinted windows as people tried to get pictures of the cat by 40 or 50 people paparazzi-style.
