SAP AG has acquired a private e-commerce Swiss company called hybris.  The terms of the acquisition was undisclosed, but reports suggest that the deal was worth between $1.2 to $1.5 billion.  hybris develops software that competes against IBM’s WebSphere Commerce Suite and Oracle’s Commerce Suite.  SAP said that this move will enable them to “expand its customer insight and engagement across all channels.”

hybris helps businesses across multiple countries sell more goods, services, and digital content through every touch point, channel, and device.  hybris’ flagship software “OmniCommerce” is a master data management software that unifies commerce processes and gives companies a single view of their customers, products, and orders.  In business terms, this is known as an ERP system.  Private equity firm HGGC is a majority investor in hybris.

Founded in 1997, hybrid said that by joining SAP, they will be able to deliver complete omni-channel business services and continue their “strong growth trajectory.”  Most of hybris’ clients are based in Europe.
