Real-Time CDN Company Fastly Raises $10 Million In Series B

Fastly Logo
is a company that delivers the world’s only real-time content delivery network (CDN).  The company’s Fastly Caching Engine technology delivers static, dynamic, and streaming content with the lowest recorded time to first byte.  Fastly’s customers include Disqus, Twitter, Wikia, Yammer, Github, and Wanelo.  To foster the company’s rapid growth, Fastly has raised $10 million in a Series B round of funding led by August Capital.  Fastly plans to use the funding to expand their network.

Founded by Artur Bergman (former Wikia CTO), the company’s caching engine speeds up an entire site including highly dynamic applications using both static and dynamic content.  This makes it possible to run instant purges that enable users to build a more robust and dynamic application.  Fastly also provides real-time analytics and a dashboard to give you control over what you want for your application.

Older CDNs do not have the ability to perform instant purges.  All of these requests get passed on to application services as a result.  This means that there are a large number of servers that are required to support your applications, causing costs to increase and user satisfaction to decrease.  Fastly started using SSDs from the beginning and can program the SSD correctly.  Legacy providers take around 7-10 minutes to update, but Fastly can have a website updated in 120 milliseconds using their SSD and 10 gigabyte network ports.
