Twilio Raises $70 Million In Series D
Twilio is a company that has APIs enabling developers to add SMS, VoIP, and voice technology to applications. Twilio has raised $70 million in Series D funding led by Redpoint Ventures and existing investor Bessemer Venture Partners. Draper Fisher Jurvetson also participated in this round. Scott Raney (Redpoint) is joining Twilio’s board of directors.
Twilio makes it easier for brands and companies to send SMS and text messages to consumers using a single line of code in exchange of 1 cent per text message sent or received. Twilio manages a bulk of the work with simple API calls.
Twilio was originally planning to raise between $35 and $50 million, but interest was higher than expected. Twilio previously raised $33.5 million in funding. Twilio currently has 160 employees and recently moved to a bigger office.
Based in San Francisco, Twilio is not expecting to raise another round. It is more likely that they will go public sometime in the near future.
