Report: Nokia Ships Last Smartphone Powered By Symbian

Nokia Corporation has shipped their last smartphone powered by Symbian.  According to The Financial Times, Nokia built and shipped their last batch of Symbian smartphones that they will ever produce.  Symbian is now a thing of the past.

“It took 22 months to get a Symbian phone out of the door,” stated a Nokia spokesperson in an interview with The Financial Times. “With Windows Phone, it is less than a year. We spend less time having to tinker with deep-lying code and more time on crafting elements of the experience that make a big difference, such as around photography, maps, music and apps in general.”

Symbian shut down their website and online code distribution platform in December 2010.  In November 2012, IDC reported that Symbian still had a 2.3% marketshare.
