GIGTANK Is An Accelerator That Offers Entrepreneurs A 100% Fiber Optic Network
When I think of Chattanooga, the first thing that pops in my head is country music. I would not immediately think of the possibility that there is a large startup incubator powered by a 1-gigabit per second Internet service in the area. On August 6th, the city of Chattanooga is going to conclude with their Demo Day for the second annual GIGTANK summer-long accelerator program. The program involves 7 startups and 13 specialists. Ethernet inventor Bob Metcalf is delivering a keynote for the event. The GIGTANK event is being hosted by The Company Lab.
“Our city looks forward to hosting technology experts, thought leaders, and investors for GIGTANK’s Demo Day,” stated Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke. “Since Chattanooga became America’s first Gig City, we have emerged as a place for entrepreneurs and next-generation businesses to thrive, fueling our growth for decades to come.”
Some of the startups participating in the program this year are from various parts of the world:
– AirCart / France: Retail technology
– FwdHealth / Chattanooga: Healthcare technology
– HutGrip / Bulgaria: Manufacturing automation
– Mira / New Jersey: Retail technology
– Sisasa / Michigan: Finance technology
– TidBit / Cayman Islands: Mobile education
– WeCounsel / Chattanooga: Healthcare technology
The city of Chattanooga completed 100% of their fiber network in 2011, thus becoming the first Gig City in America. Their fiber optic network is used as a communications backbone for one of the nation’s most advanced smart grid electric distribution systems also.
