The Affordable Buccaneer 3D Printer Surges Past Kickstarter Goal

Buccaneer 3D Printer

Pirate3D Inc. is a company that has a goal to bring a quality and affordable 3D printer in everyone’s home.  The name of the affordable 3D printer is called The Buccaneer. The Buccaneer was built to be as easily set up as possible.  The Buccaneer is a closed-box 3D printer that uses biodegradable plastic.  The Buccaneer 3D printer is food-safe and is environmentally friendly (you can actually eat what you print).  The Buccaneer lets you take the materials cartridge, put it at the top, and print projects wirelessly using Apple and Android devices.

The Buccaneer is raising funds from crowd-funding website, to help take their concept to mass manufacturing.  As of the time that I am writing this, the Buccaneer has hit over $1.1 million across over 2,800 backers with 3 days to go.  Pirate3D’s goal was $100,000 so they hit over 10 times their goal.  Below is a demo of how the Buccaneer works:

Pirate3D said that they would be offering acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) support if they hit the $1 million mark.  Pirate3D is going to be providing software settings for ABS plastic as well as offering the material itself in their cartridges.  The $1 million stretch goal was added after Kickstarter backers requested the feature.  “Rather than stop at providing a heated bed and unofficial hacks to use ABS, we’ve decided to incorporate ABS as an official material. After rigorous testing with our current system, we have found that we can offer ABS support without compromising the usability of the Buccaneer,” said the Pirate3D.

The Buccaneer 3D Printer will cost only $347 (USA/Canada/Singapor) or $497 if you want to ship it internationally.
