Hadoop Distribution Company Hortonworks Raises $50 Million

Hortonworks is a Hadoop distribution company that has raised $50 million in a new round of financing in order to accelerate their growth. This round of funding was led by new investors Tenaya Capital and Dragoneer Investment Group. There was also participation from existing investors Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures, and Yahoo! Spinning out of Yahoo! in 2011, Hortonworks competes with other Hadoop distribution companies like MapR and Cloudera. Hortonworks is also known for being the chief contributor to Hadoop 2.0 and Apache Hadoop Yarn.
