Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) White House Petition Surges Past 75,000 Signatures
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) fans have put together a petition on The White House’s website that has hit over 75,000 signatures (78,013 and counting as of the time I wrote this). The petition needs to hit 100,000 by July 5th in order for The White House to review it. The petition is pushing to allow Tesla and other car manufacturers to sell cars directly to consumers.
Currently 48 states in the United States restrict or ban sales between automobile manufacturers and consumers. These laws are supposedly to help car dealers stay competitive. Tesla has been able to sell their Model S to consumers in many states, but it has forced them to sell vehicles in restricted areas.
“The state legislators are trying to unfairly protect automobile dealers in their states from competition. Tesla is providing competition, which is good for consumers,” states the petition.
Another popular White House petition was for the construction of a Death Star, a fictitious space station that appeared in Star Wars movies. That petition hit over 25,000 signatures and the Obama administration officially declined to push this initiative forward. The administration said that the construction of a Death Star would cost $850,000,000,000,000,000 and the government does not support blowing up planets.
