CollegeHumor To Release Coffee Town Movie Tomorrow
Popular comedy website CollegeHumor is going to release their first full feature-length film tomorrow called Coffee Town. The film will be made available on iTunes, Amazon.com, PlayStation, and other platforms.
The movie was written and directed by Brad Copeland (The Inbetweeners, Wild Hogs, and Arrested Development). The movie stars Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia), Ben Schwartz (House of Lies, Parks and Recreation), Steve Little (Eastbound and Down), Jake Johnson (New Girl, 21 Jump Street, Safety Not Guaranteed), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, Supernatural), and Josh Groban (The Office, Crazy Stupid Love.)
Coffee Town presents a new monetization source for CollegeHumor and Barry Diller’s InterActiveCorp. IAC bought a majority stake in CollegeHumor in 2006. The film will not have a wide theatrical release and it will be marketers exclusively through CollegeHumor’s outlets instead of TV commercials and ads. Coffee Town will be screened in select theaters and will premiere at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal on July 27th.
“We think that there are some movies that need to buy a lot of TV ads and be in 3,000 theaters to be successful,” stated CollegeHumor co-founder Ricky Van Veen in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “But something like Coffee Town we believe can find an audience without those bells and whistles.”
The movie is about a website manager named Will (Howerton) that asks his two friends for help to convince the owners of a coffee shop not to turn their business into a bar. Check out the trailer below:
