In this past fiscal year ending June 30th, Microsoft Corporation settled 3,265 software lawsuits across 43 countries.  Only 35 of those were in the U.S. and 19 states are named.  The 3,230 other cases were international across 42 countries.

“Software counterfeiting negatively impacts local and global economic growth, stifles innovation, and puts consumers and businesses at risk,” stated Microsoft Cybercrime Center associate general counsel David Finn.

Microsoft said that the messages that say “report that this software as stolen” when you open a hacked version of Windows is working.  Around 450,000 counterfeit reports were made by customers since 2005.

One of the lawsuits that is named specifically is an infringement complaint against garment manufacturing company Ningbo Beyond Group.  This lawsuit was brought by the Attorney General of California.
