Electronic Arts Reports That Their Top Retail Partner Is Apple
In the past, Electronic Arts heavily relied on brick-and-mortar stores selling their products. Digital sales are on the rise now though.
EA reported their first quarter earnings this week and EA said that digital sales have surpassed physical outlets. Apple is now EA’s top partner over GameStop, Walmart, and Amazon.com.
“Our quarter was notable for its strong digital sales,” stated Electronic Arts chief operating officer Peter Moore. “To that end, Apple was EA’s biggest retail partner as measured by sales. That is a first.”
EA is the third largest gaming company in the world.
Moore did not disclose how much money Apple generated for EA. EA posted $495 million in total revenues for the quarter and $378 million of that was digital. Around $90 million of that amount came from smartphones and tablets, according to AllThingsD. That means Apple generated a large portion of that $90 million.
One of the best new features in iOS 7 when it will be releases is game controller support. This will likely drive a lot more in gaming sales for EA.
