Amazon Now Has Over 97,000 Employees, Which Is Triple From 3 Years Ago
When Amazon.com reported their quarterly financials yesterday, the company said that they did not hit a profit. But another number that was worth looking at is their employee count, which is 97,000. That is the number of full-time and part-time employees that Amazon.com had as of June 30th. The employee count is three times the amount that they had as of 2010. This figure does not include temporary workers or contractors.
Amazon.com’s total workers includes employees at their fulfillment and distribution centers across the world. With such a quickly growing staff count, it explains why Amazon.com acquired a much larger headquarters in Seattle. Since Amazon.com’s employee count is growing at a rapid pace, it also explains why their operating expenses are growing at a rapid pace.
Microsoft Corporation currently has slightly over 99,000 employees (excluding contractors) so Amazon.com is quickly catching up to them. This article was written by Amit Chowdhry. You can follow me at @amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
