500px Raises $8.8 Million In Series A

, the popular photo sharing website, has raised $8.8 million in Series A funding led by Andreessen Horowitz and Harrison MetalCreative Artists Agency, Rugged Ventures, Dustin Plett, and ff Venture Capital also participated in this round of funding.  500px is going to focus on the further development of their marketplace where photographers can sell their photos.

500px is planning to triple their 25-person team within the next couple of years and open an office in the Bay Area of California.  The company will focus on business development in California and the technical team will continue to work in Toronto, Ontario.

500px had around 100,000 users total around two years ago and they hit one million last year.  Now the service has around 2.5 million users.

According to TechCrunch, Harrison Metal founder Michael Dearing is joining 500px’s board of directors.  Andreessen Horowitz’s Jeff Jordan will be an observer of the board.
