Facebook Is Testing Out Trending Topics, Further Challenging Twitter

Facebook Trending Topics

Facebook has recently been implementing several services that have been popularized by Twitter.  Facebook added hashtags to status updates and added video to Instagram to challenge Twitter’s Vine video service.  Now Facebook is testing out a Trending Topics like feature.

The feature is being tested on a small group of mobile users in the United States.  These users will see it appear on their News Feeds on m.facebook.com.  By clicking on the topic, it will open featured status updates, photos, etc.  The comments written by the user’s friends will appear at the top.

You will notice in the screenshot above that Facebook is currently testing out Topics like Shark Week and Jeff Bezos.

“Today we started running a small test that displays topics trending on Facebook. It is currently only available to a small percentage of U.S. users who use Facebook’s mobile web site (m.facebook.com) and is still in very early stages of development. We will share more details down the line if we decide to roll it out more widely,” said Facebook in a statement sent to AllThingsD.
