Google Inc (GOOG) Android Hits 79% Market Share For Q2 2013
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android has gained a lot of market share in this past quarter. According to Gartner, the Android platform is dominating smartphone sales for Q2 this year. Android accounted for a total of 79% of the smartphones sold worldwide for Q2. Smartphone sales have overtaken the sales of feature phone sales.
“Smartphones accounted for 51.8 percent of mobile phone sales in the second quarter of 2013, resulting in smartphone sales surpassing feature phone sales for the first time,” stated Gartner principal research analyst Anshul Gupta.
Smartphone sales grew worldwide to 225 million units, which is a 46.5% increase for the same period last year. Feature phone sales decreased by 21% with about 210 million units sold for the same period. Smartphone sales increased in Asia Pacific (74.1%), Latin America (55.7%), and Eastern Europe (31.6%).
