Dots Arrives On Android And Kindle Fire As They Hit Nearly 1 Billion Games Played
Dots is a top iOS game developed by Betaworks where the object is to connect as many same-colored dots as you can in 60 seconds. Betaworks has recently launched the game on Android and the Kindle Fire app store. Ever since Dots was launched in May, it has been downloaded over 5 million times. The game will soon be hitting 1 billion games played, according to Betaworks SVP of products Paul Murphy. Dot users are playing the game about 5-10 million times per day.
It took a bit of time to create the Android version of the game in order to make sure that there was “continuous integration” so that Android users never lag behind iPhone users in terms of game modes and new features.
Dots was actually an unintended product at Betaworks. Betaworks hacker-in-residence Patrick Moberg was playing around with different user interaction designs when working on a short story platform called Tapestry. He ended up turning this platform into a game and voila.
