Maker Studios To Acquire Blip.tv
Maker Studios is a company is a multi-channel network that was co-founded by Lisa Donovan, Danny Zappin, Scott Katz, Kassem Gharaibeh, Shay Carl Butler, Ben Donovan, and Philip DeFranco.
There are around 60,000 YouTube channels involved with Maker Studios and they hit around 4 billion views per month. Maker Studios has made an agreement to acquire Blip.tv, a company that produces original web videos.
Maker has a presence on YouTube and Blip has distribution on Xbox Live, Roku, Yahoo! Screen, AOL, YouTube, Google TV, and iTunes. The terms of the deal reportedly involves stock and cash, but was undisclosed.
Blip has around 5,000 independent YouTube channels that distributes content for MyDamnChannel, Pet Collective, and Rooster Teeth. Maker Studios hit around 119 million views from 9.6 million U.S. viewers in June. Last year, Blip started to create content from sponsored brand partners, including GEICO and Verizon.
Blip counts Canaan Partners, Bain Capital Ventures, and Ambient Sound Investments as their investors. Blip currently has around 50 employees.
