Oldest Facebook User Edythe Kirchmaier Receives Car From Unknown Donor
Edythe Kirchmaier, 105, is known as being the oldest Facebook user in the world. Kirchmaier lives in Santa Barbara, California and is now driving around in a new Honda Civic. An anonymous donor gave her the car after learning that she was having problems with her 1997 Dodge Caravan. Without transportation, Kirchmaier temporarily was having trouble spending time with the charity Direct Relief.
Kirchmaier spent the last 40 years volunteering with Direct Relief. She has worked in relief work since World War I, according to Direct Relief spokeswoman Kerri Murray in an interview with Mashable.
“She dedicates hours and hours of her time to help bring better health to people around the world,” said Murray in the interview. “Giving back is something she’s been doing her whole life.”
Kirchmaier thanked the anonymous donor on her Facebook profile.
Kirchmaier signed up on Facebook late last year. At that time, Facebook had to recode their registration system because 1908 was not recognized as a birth year. Kirchmaier appeared on The Tonight Show and The Ellen DeGeneres Show shortly after that.
Kirchmaier is also the oldest driver in California and has a perfect driving record. She never received a speeding ticket or parking violation.
