Android Executive Hugo Barra Joins Xiaomi
Hugo Barra is one of the top Android executives that has left Google to join Chinese manufacturing company Xiaomi. Barra will be in charge of helping Xiaomi expand internationally and will oversee the company’s strategic cooperation with Google, according to the WSJ.
Xiaomi is based in Beijing and has grown quickly. Earlier this month, we reported that Xiaomi has hit a $10 billion valuation. Xiaomi is known for selling low-cost Android devices that have top hardware specs.
Barra started working at Google in 2008 after the search giant acquired voice recognition firm Nuance Communications. Barra became the director of product management for Android in 2010.
“We’ll miss him at Google and we’re excited that he is staying within the Android ecosystem,” stated a Google spokesperson.
