Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) Announces New Kindle Paperwhite, MatchBook Service
Amazon.com, Inc. (NYSE:AMZN) has announced a new Kindle Paperwhite tablet. The new Kindle Paperwhite will have new display technology with higher contrast, a faster processor, the next-generation built-in light, new touch technology, and exclusive new features for readers. You can order the new Paperwhite from this link.
“Kindle is the best-selling e-reader in the world for six years running,” stated Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and CEO. “No one is investing on behalf of readers or pushing the boundaries of hardware, software and content for readers like this team: the new Kindle Paperwhite has brand-new display technology, the next generation of our built-in light, a faster processor, plus all of the exclusive benefits of the Kindle ecosystem like Kindle MatchBook, Kindle Owners’ Lending Library, over 400,000 exclusive titles, Goodreads, Kindle Singles, Kindle Worlds, Kindle FreeTime, and much more.”
Amazon said that there is higher contrast and better reflectivity, which means that “whites are whiter and blacks are blacker.” The books open and pages turn faster for a seamless reading experience. The Kindle Paperwhite lets you skim page-by-page, scan by chapter, or skip to the end your book, without losing your place.
The Paperwhite is integrated with Goodreads so that you can see what 20 million other users are reading and sharing. You can also see book ratings through Goodreads built into the tablet.
The tablet has built-in parental controls to encourage kids to spend more time reading. Parents can also hand-select books for your kids to read and hand out achievement badges when they hit reading milestones. FreeTime also logs progress reports to keep parents updated on total time spent reading, number of words looked up, badges earned, and books finished.
The Vocabulary Builder compiles words you look up in the dictionary into an easy-to-access list. You can use these lists to quiz yourself with flashcards and instantly see the words in context.
The new Smart Lookup feature has full dictionary definition with other reference information about a word, character, topic, or book via X-Ray and Wikipedia.
Using a single tap, you will be able to read the complete text of each footnote in-line without changing the page or losing your place in the book.
This is a new benefit that lets customers purchase Kindle editions of print books purchased from Amazon – past, present, and future – for $2.99 or less.
The new Kindle Paperwhite is only $119. The Paperwhite is available for pre-order starting today at Amazon.com and will start shipping on September 30th. The top-of-the-line Kindle Paperwhite WiFi + 3G is $189. The WiFi + 3G version of the tablet will start shipping on November 5th.
