, Inc. (AMZN) Suffers Cloud Outage Today

Amazon Web Services Logo, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Web Services suffered from an outage today.  Websites like Reddit, Netflix, SAP, NASDAQ, Flickr, Socialvibe, and Animoto uses Amazon Web Services (AWS).  Amazon said that they are “investigating network connectivity issues” in data centers that they run at the Northern Virginia area.

AWS reported on their status dashboard that they were investigating the network issues at about 10:30AM this morning.  Some of the services that were impact by the outage includes Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Elastic Block Storage (EBS), Elastic Load Balancers (ELBs), AWS Relational Database (RDS), etc.  Amazon isolated the issue to a single Availability Zone within the US-East 1 region in Northern Virginia.  AWS reported that impacted instances that were unreachable through public IP addresses.

This is not the first time that the US-East region had issues.  This area had an outage in late 2012 and AWS had to issue refunds to customers as a result.
