Intel is going to be shutting down a factory in Hudson, Massachusetts at the end of 2014 and is cutting around 700 jobs, according to the Boston Globe.  That factory was originally built by Digital Equipment Corporation, a former computer manufacturing company that Intel acquired in 1998.

That factory uses chipmaking technology that is over 10 years old and is four generations behind what Intel uses in their newer factories.  Intel is hoping to sell the plant.s

Around 100 workers will be laid off in the next 3-4 months.  The other 600 will be employed until 2014 while Intel seeks a buyer.  Intel has another R&D center in Hudson that employs about 850 people.
