Google’s video streaming service YouTube is hitting around 6 billion hours of video streamed per month.  YouTube will soon allow users to watch content on the web even if they are not connected.

“This upcoming feature will allow people to add videos to their device to watch for a short period when an Internet connection is unavailable. So your fans’ ability to enjoy your videos no longer has to be interrupted by something as commonplace as a morning commute,” said YouTube in a blog post.

YouTube will let viewers save clips to their smartphones and other devices for up to 48 hours.  The videos will be free and Google will place ads in those clips.
