Apple Inc. (AAPL): Gene Munster Expecting 5-6 Million iPhones To Sell This Weekend

Apple iPhone 5s
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is one of the most cited sources when it comes to Apple Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) due to his track record.  Munster believes that Apple will sell between 5 and 6 million iPhones worldwide through Sunday, according to an investor note sent to Mashable.  Munster is expecting Apple to sell 2.5 million iPhone 5s and 3 million iPhone 5c smartphones.

BTIG Research is expecting that Apple will sell at least 6 million iPhones since the phone is being introduced in China with all of the other launch countries.  KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is predicting that Apple will sell between 6-8 million new iPhones over the weekend.

“We believe that Apple will likely sell all of the 5Ses they will produce for launch weekend,” stated Munster in the note. “Based on Apple not taking online pre-orders for the 5S, which we believe was to avoid customers immediately seeing delivery times for 2+ weeks out, we believe the 5S is more production-constrained than the iPhone 5 was at launch, likely due to the addition of the finger print technology.”

When Apple announced the iPhone 5 last year, the company sold 5 million during the launch weekend.  This is one of the reasons why Apple’s stock started to drop.
