FreedomPop subscribers has launched their new free smartphone service in beta.  FreedomPop is promising 500MB of free 4G data, 500 free text messages, and 200 free anytime voice minutes per month.  The calls between FreedomPop users are free.  FreedomPop also launched an unlimited voice and texting plan for $11 per month without any contracts or commitments.

“A user paying $1,500 per year for mobile services today can save well over $1,000 per year for the same plan with FreedomPop,” stated FreedomPop CEO Stephen Stokols. “That is real value, real savings and a real meteor to the current market dynamics.”

The FreedomPop Phone service is launching on the HTC EVO Design first.  The EVO Design will be available at a discounted price of $99 first.  More Android handsets will be offered later this year.

FreedomPop launched a low-cost home broadband plan earlier this year.  FreedomPop offers 1GB per month for free and 10GB for $10.  If you are interested in FreedomPop’s free mobile phone service, check it out here.

Launched but what about shipping? For example, the Freedom Spot MiFi 5580. I ordered on the morning of the first day they had it on their web site (Aug 6, almost 2 months ago) and they have not shipped it yet. But they charged my credit card the day I ordered it!
