Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (KRX:005930) has lost a bid to stop an import ban that is being enforced by the International Trade Commission today.  Several months ago, the Obama administration agreed to overturn a ban on older Apple products based on a Samsung court victory.  The U.S. trade representative said that the ban did not pose a great enough threat to the consumer market to shop.

“After carefully weighing policy considerations, including the impact on consumers and competition, advice from agencies, and information from interested parties, I have decided to allow [the ban],” stated U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman in an interview with Bloomberg.

Samsung warned the Obama administration that they should have a “significant interest” in avoiding the appearance of favoritism towards U.S. based companies.  The Obama administration stopped an import ban of older iPhones and iPads after Apple and Samsung could not come to a licensing agreement on industry standard patents that were held by Samsung.  Apple was able to ban Samsung devices by enforcing patents for their proprietary technologies.

The ban against Samsung products took place this past summer.  Samsung accused Apple of infringing patents regarding the design of the display and headphone jack.
