The Cadillac ELR Will Start At $75,995 When Launching In January 2014
The Cadillac ELR is going to be available for sale starting this January. The price of the two-door plug-in car will start at $75,995. When applying a $7,500 federal tax credit for plug in vehicles, the ELR will cost around $68,500.
Based on this price, the ELR will cost more than the Tesla Model S. A Model S with a 265-mile driving range costs $72,400 after the text credit and $62,400 for the 208-mile range.
The Cadillac ELR will be able to drive 35 miles under purely electric power. From there, the four-cylinder gas engine turns on and generates electricity for more driving. The ELR costs more than twice the amount of the Chevrolet Volt. The Volt starts at $34,000.
General Motors unveiled the Cadillac ELR at the Detroit Auto Show last January. GM is going to build around 10,000 ELRs per year.
“The ELR is a unique blend of dramatic design with electric vehicle technology capable of total range in excess of 300 miles,” stated Global Cadillac senior vice president Bob Ferguson. “ELR is also unique in that it will be offered nationwide within a luxury customer experience, with proven benefits and care extending from the shopping process all the way through the ownership experience.”
