Microsoft Acknowledges That The Surface RT Branding Was Confusing

Surface RT
Microsoft got rid of the Surface RT brand for the second generation Windows RT tablet for future devices.  The new devices are called the Microsoft Surface 2 and Microsoft Surface Pro 2.

An executive at Microsoft has acknowledged that the original Surface RT branding was likely a mistake.  Jack Cowett, the marketing manager for Surface, acknowledge the mistake in an interview with Australian website ARN.

“We think that there was some confusion in the market last year on the difference between Surface RT and Surface Pro,” said Cowett. “We want to help make it easier for people, and these are two different products designed for two different people.”

Microsoft is currently the only company that still sells products with Windows RT.  It is believed that the $900 million Surface RT write-off is the reason why Steve Ballmer is retiring.
