Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) To Open Two Czech Distribution Centers In 2014
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has announced that they will be opening two distribution centers in the Czech Republic next year. This will create up to 4,000 permanent and 6,000 seasonal jobs over the next 3 years. According to Reuters, Amazon said that these centers would be located near the airport in Prague airport and near the Czech city of Brno.
Last month, several hundred Amazon employees at their German centers went on strike after the e-commerce giant refused to bring pay in line with comparable work in the distribution sector. The German employees also had walkouts in May and June.
Amazon’s new centers would have lower labor costs. Currently Amazon employs 9,000 people in Germany across 8 logistics centers, two customer service centers, and at their German headquarters in Munich.
