eBay Inc (EBAY) Acquires Shutl, Launches Collections And eBay Today Features
eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) has bought London-based Shutl as part of a plan to expand their eBay Now same-day delivery to 25 cities. eBay president Devin Wenig announced that eBay Now will expanding their service to 25 cities including London in 2014. eBay Now is opening in Chicago today and then expand to Dallas from there.
“We intend to make eBay the most convenient way to shop locally, period,” stated Wenig.
eBay Now competes against same-day delivery startups and larger tech companies like Google and Amazon. Google launched their same-day delivery service in the Bay Area last month. Amazon Fresh now operates in Seattle and Los Angeles. Even Walmart is in the same-day delivery service in Denver.
eBay also updated their website with new features to personalize their online shopping services as part of a feature called “Collections.” Collections are items that are curated by eBay’s designers, buyers, and sellers. The items are also curated through customized profiles for buyers and sellers.
eBay Today is a new page feature that shows new items curated daily. This feature also allows users to follow curators and other eBay users.
