Tesla Motors CEO: ‘Top Gear’ Is More About Entertainment, Than Truth
Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk was interviewed by the BBC recently. One of the questions he was asked was about what his thoughts on “Top Gear” are.
“Clarkson’s show is much more about entertainment than it is about truth and I think most people realize that, but not everyone. And I’ve actually enjoyed a lot of his shows. It’s not as though I hate Top Gear or anything. He can be very funny and irreverent, but he does have a strong bias against electric cars and he particularly seems to hate American… His two pet peeves are American cars and electric cars. And we’re an American electric car so we’re in the worst possible situation for someone like Clarkson. So it’s no surprise that things turned out the way it did.”
Elon Musk was referring to Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson. Earlier this year, the court of appeal dismissed a lawsuit brought by Tesla Motors against the BBC Top Gear show. Tesla Motors insisted that Top Gear faked a scene that showed a Tesla Roadster running out of power. The episode aired in 2008 and Tesla said that this caused sales of the electric sports car to drop.
