Report: Apple Close To Making Deal With LG Display For “iWatch”

Apple is close to making a deal with LG Display.  LG Display is supposed to provide Apple with OLED displays for the upcoming “iWatch” product.  According to the report, RITEK’s subsidary RiTdisplay will be the other primary display supplier aside from LG.

It is rumored that Samsung also met with Apple to become a supplier for the “iWatch,” but the discussions were not “productive.”  Samsung launched a smart-watch product of their own called the Galaxy Gear.

“Instead of relying on one supplier for its iWatch, which will be unveiled next year, Apple will have two vendors to be safe. The key provider will be RiTDisplay and LG Display will be the second,” stated HMC Investment Securities’ analyst Kim Young-woo said. “Japan Display might also be a candidate, but so far its capacity seems lacking.”

During an earnings call yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook said to expect new product categories in 2014.  This could likely mean an Apple TV product or a watch product.
