Apple Inc. (AAPL) To Replace Limited Number Of iPhone 5s Phones
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has announced that a manufacturing issue has caused the iPhone 5s battery life to be shortened in a “very limited” number of smartphones. When the iPhone 5s was introduced, it was announced that the battery would have a nearly identical life as the iPhone 5. Most of the tests have shown that the number is identical or slightly improved. However, there is a small number of iPhone 5s smartphones that are defective.
“We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5S devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life,” stated Apple spokeswoman Teresa Brewer in an interview with The New York Times. “We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone.”
Apple did not provide an exact number of how many iPhone 5s devices were affected, but it is believed to be a few thousand. On the weekend of the device launch, Apple sold a combined 9 million iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c devices.
