Is Facebook Tracking Cursor Movement Data?

Facebook is reportedly testing new technology that can track and collect data about a user’s activity on the website, including cursor movements, according to The Wall Street Journal.  This technology is currently being tested with a small group of users.

This data may potentially be used for product development and advertising said Facebook analytics head Ken Rudin.  The technology could determine where a user is hovering their cursor on the screen.  This could help determine the right spots to place ads.

The same technology can track where Facebook’s mobile users can see their News Feed at a particular time from their smartphone.  Facebook will decide within a few months whether or not this data collection would be relevant for targeted advertising.
