Bitcoin Startup Circle Raises $9 Million

Circle is a Bitcoin startup that has raised $9 million in Series A funding from Accel Partners and General Catalyst Partners. The founder of Circle is Jeremy Allaire. Allaire is known for being the chairman and founder of online video platform Brightcove. The goal of Circle is to make it easier to buy and use Bitcoin without having to deal with long character strings and public key cryptography. Circle also wants to make it easier for merchants to ingrate Bitcoin into the business. Allaire will remain as the chairman of Brightcove while building Circle. Circle’s office is only a block and a half from Brightcove’s offices in Boston, Massachusetts.
