Groupon Inc (GRPN) Deal For Starbucks Surges Past 100,000 Purchases

Starbucks Groupon
Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) launched a deal today for Starbucks.  You can buy $10 worth of Starbucks for $5 through Groupon.  The deal is running for the next 2 days.  So far, over 100,000 people bought the deal.  If Groupon charged their standard cut of 50% from this deal, they likely made $250,000 from this deal alone. However, Groupon may have charged Starbucks much less of a cut for the exposure.

“We are celebrating our 5th birthday with our biggest ever deal for Starbucks, available exclusively on Groupon’s new searchable website or mobile app,” stated Groupon SVP of global marketing Rich Williams in an interview with The Huffington Post.

Groupon set up a similar deal with Starbucks earlier this year and it was successful.  The deal sold out in a few hours.

Groupon Inc (GRPN) Deal For Starbucks Surges Past 100,000 Purchases Comments

  1. Christian says:

50% cut is a bit exaggerated. It’s actually more like 30%-40%. I’m guessing on the lower end for the exposure this provides to Groupon.

  2. pete says:

No way – Starbucks would not be paying up 50% to GRPN – more likely 10% as GRPN gets the cache of working with Starbucks, they get a preferential deal!
