Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) Will Launch A Pickup Truck In The Future
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk said that the company will eventually launch a full-size pickup to compete against the Ford F-150. Musk made the announcement at the Business Insider IGNITION conference on Tuesday.
Musk pointed out that his company wants to replace the most gasoline miles driven and you have to look at what people are buying. He said that the F-150 is the best selling car in America. “If people are voting that’s their car, then that’s the car we have to deliver,” said Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk.
Musk said that it would probably be at least five years before Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) launched the pickup truck. Ford Motor Company sold around 560,000 F series pick-up trucks in the United States through the first 9 months of the year. During this same period, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) sold about 14,000 Model S vehicles.
The first Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) vehicle was called the Roadster. The Roadster is no longer being produced. Now Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is selling a vehicle called the Model S, which is a sedan that has a starting price of around $69,000. The next Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) vehicle will be the Model X crossover SUV, which will be a little bit more expensive than the Model S.
